Fasting required. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 8 hours before testing. Draw fasting level. If fasting glucose is <150 mg/dL, have patient ingest dextrose. Draw blood 1 hour after ingestion of beverage. Draw blood after 2 hour ingestion of beverage.
